Happy Halloween!!!
Aren't these mannequins discovered at Macy's adorable?
This is such a special photo, and even though it's not strictly of Maui, I wanted to share it with you. On our journey eastward, we passed by the summit of Maua Kea peeking through the clouds on the Big Island. If you look closely, you can see the observatories.
Today I'm continuing with photos from the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center. This photo looks across to the Food Court area, and it was shot from the Second Level. As you can see, the lighting fixtures are Asian influenced and give off a soft glow to the surroundings.
I've posted a photo of the Queen Ka'ahumanu statue for nearly ever season now with this one qualifying as my summer post. Longtime readers of this blog may recall viewing this statue which stands at the center of the Queen Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center in Kahului.IMHO I feel the shopping center website designers should incorporate the image of this beautiful statue into their website, and most specifically their landing page.
Last week my daughter discovered this 'downed' bird on our property, and so I picked it up, checked to see if it's neck or wing was broken, and then I brought it some water in a little white dish. The bird drank the water, recovered and finally flew away--a happy ending.
These young drivers passed by me today at the Safeway Store in Kihei, and they were too adorable to let pass by without a photo. I asked their Mom if I could photograph them, and she agreed. This car is attached to the shopping cart and serves Moms with more than one child very well.
This is a sign at Fred's Mexican Restaurant in South Maui. They sounded out the words in a colorful fashion. Ya like it?Google wouldn't let me upload photos recently for some odd reason. Did that happen to any other photobloggers?
This isn't like me to be so indecisive, but seriously--I couldn't make up my mind which METAL photo to post for the August theme of Metal, so I posted my three favorites. Which one is your favorite? The top one is a warning sign which I purchased for a friend of mine with a fierce chihuaha...the second one is a metal sign pointing to one of my favorite beachside restaurants, and the third one is an old engine. Please visit the other daily photobloggers in the following list to see how they interpreted metal!Albuquerque (NM), USA by Helen, Aliso Viejo (CA), USA by Rodney, American Fork (UT), USA by Annie, My summer is actually more exciting than this photo would suggest. However, when the days are busy and lots of stuff is happening, nothing is more soothing to me than gazing upon all things GREEN. There is something about the color GREEN which rejuvenates me.
And what color or place does it for you?
We were driving down South Kihei Road yesterday merrily minding our own business when suddenly I noticed this store sign, and I was so taken with it that we drove around the block to photograph it for the worldwide audience!
No, I didn't go in and purchase any! I'm not terribly attracted to donkey balls, but I think the name and sign are very eye-catching, eh?And when am I gonna have another opportunity to post something like this???
If I were forced to reincarnate as a dog, I would hope to be born a Maui dog--or at least move to Maui. Judging by the dogs I meet around and about (alas, no ownership of a dog for me at the present time), Maui dogs have it good!
This old dog came to greet me recently, and she told me she loved Maui. She had spent most of her doggy-hood in Alaska, and Maui was a great place to retire.
We have six very tall coconut palms on our property, and every year the coconuts on these trees return. We hire specialists to chop these coconuts off the tree every year. I've posted the photos of the process somewhere on this blog, but when I went to look for it today, I couldn't locate the post under any of the key words, so the photos are hiding somewhere on this blog under weird key words. Once we have these new coconuts harvested soon, I'll post the 2008 photos for those that missed the excitement the first time around.
This photo is from my vintage photo collection, and I scanned it into my computer yesterday for the first time. It shows the Kanaio stuppa back on March 12, 1992--that was about the time we discovered this awesome place which is really, really hard to get to. Back then we hiked all the way up to this place. Check out the view of the ocean far below. It's a breathtaking location. This place is now classified as a hermitage for the Prayer Rock Foundation.
At the North end of South Kihei Road you'll find the Kihei Canoe Club. In the mornings you'll often see an outrigger coming in from its morning run....with people paddling, of course! Looking upon an outrigger canoe being rowed in is a beautiful sight, and people frequently pull up in their cars beside the beach to watch. And should you wish to row too, there's an opportunity to do so with other paddlers as their guest. Check out the details at the website. This one is resting-- Pulelehua means butterfly in Hawaiian.
Big news on Maui is that the long awaited Mokulele Highway expansion has now been completed. This is the main road from South Maui to the commercial/airport/industrial part of Maui, and now we will hopefully find less traffic congestion. The speed limit is still posted at 45 mph, although some people are driving 60 mph.
