April Theme Day--Water

Since I've posted many photos of gorgeous turquoise and cobalt blue ocean water, I decided to post a dolphins and stars tattoo of a friend complete with water and skin. A friend is also downloading this for me today. I'll be back from vacation in May. Please take the time to check out the photos with the water theme from these other photo bloggers around the world.

Last Leg Of Our South Maui Beach Walk

The condos on the right are older but STILL expensive. Maui's real estate isn't going down as in many other places in the USA but holding strong. Practically everything on Maui is going UP-- especially electric, gas, food, and water.
Elua Beach on the Wailea Coast has often been voted one of the best beaches in the Islands. This is where I took my scuba lessons a long time ago.
We come to the end of our South Maui Beach Walk now. Mahalo for joining me!

I wish everyone a great weekend and Happy Easter!

I'm taking off on a LONG holiday for several months and heading to various locations on the East Coast and the Caribbean. I'm SO overdue for a vacation and can't wait to explore NEW places! I'll bring back many photos which I'll post as well as inviting you to join me on another fabulous beach walk in West Maui.

A friend has agreed to upload my April Theme contribution.

Still Doing The South Maui Beach Walk

As we mosey along on our South Maui Beach walk, we look to our right, and we see a beautiful wedding chapel located on the grounds of the Grand Wailea Resort. I've posted photos of this building before on my blog from other angles.
Continuing on our winding walk past the gorgeous resorts, we notice a stone honored with leis and a sign that translates to Sacred Area. The name for stone is pohaku, and stones were of vital importance in old Hawai'i.

The old Hawaiians believed stones possessed mana and some pohaku had deities residing within them. A stone could also be a temporary resting spot for higher beings. There are all kinds of sacred stones: stones for birthing, healing. fertility, etc. The shape of the stone often determined it's special mana. Stones even possess gender. What do you feel about this one? Male or female?
We've been walking for some time now. Don't you want to take a rest on this lovely lounge chair made for two and look out to sea and dream a bit before resuming our walk tomorrow?

More Of Our South Maui Beach Walk

If you've just joined our South Maui Beach Walk, go back a couple of posts to see what you missed. For those of you walking with me, we have rounded the corner from Wailea Point, and we look down upon the beautiful beach fronting the very glamorous Four Season's Resort. This is Blogtrotter's favorite so he commented, and it's much less kid-friendly than the following hotel we come across next-- the Grand Wailea Resort, and that is the buildings of the GW in the distance, not the Four Seasons.

I've posted many photos of the Four Seasons in other posts (as it's one of my favorite resorts too!), so we're moving on....

We look to our left and see the way khool trampoline in the ocean in front of the Grand Wailea Resort. I've always wanted to swim out and try this one out, but I've never done it yet. I'll have to do this someday. Doesn't it look like fun?
And to our right, we see families playing in a kid-friendly beach/lagoon creation of the Grand Wailea Resort.
The Grand Wailea Resort has great water features and a slide if you're into that kind of thing. Count me in for water slides. Love them! My inner child is alive and well.

Notice the clothing on these children? The Maui sun can burn your skin very fast, and these children are wearing protective clothing.

Join me tomorrow for more South Maui Beach Walk.

Continuing Our South Maui Beach Walk

We pass by exotic flowers...
We notice a family peacefully reading together at their Wailea Point home...
We observe people snorkeling beside the Trilogy catamaran....

Please check back tomorrow to see more of our beach walk, and should you have missed some of this walk, scroll back to the beginning with the earlier posts.

Cruising the South Maui Coast By Foot

As we begin our beach walk along South Maui heading from the Kea Alani Resort to the Grand Wailea Resort, we will see beautiful blue ocean on our left.
To our right, we'll see a tall lava wall which is warm to the touch.
And to our right, we will pass what I call Faery-ville.
Until we come to a long stretch of a high hedges.

Join me tomorrow for more of our Beach Walk!

Blue and White

I'm going to take you on a beach walk with me--one of my favorite beach walks on Maui--and we're going to begin here at the Kea Lani Resort beach. In the next week, I'll post photos of the many beautiful images I encounter on this walk which snakes around the South Maui Coastline past gorgeous resorts and homes. So come back often ya'll and check out these photos!

More Kea Lani photos

The above photo is of the Kea Lani Villas which each have a tiny swimming pool about the size of our large jacuzzi. Forget swimming laps in these pools...they're more for floating I would guess. The Villas have the highest price tag of the available rooms at the Kea Lani, and despite the fact that their pools are small, they are beautifully decorated. Click here to see a photo of the pools and interiors.

The grounds of the hotel are lovely as well. Check out this fountain for example.

Which Pool You Would Rather...

The above photos are the two swimming pools of the gorgeous Kea Lani Resort located in Wailea. Which one most appeals to you? The top pool has a gorgeous floral design on the bottom, and the second pool has tiny dark blue tiles. It's a totally different feeling to swim in each of them.

A Little Bit of Europe On Maui

One of my favorite Kahului restaurants, Bridget & Bernard's Garden Cafe, has the most European cuisine, ambiance, and waitresses. So if you're visiting Maui and yearn for the European vibe, this wee restaurant is the closest you will find. This photo is taken in their outdoor seating area.

The Harsh Truth About The Price of Gas On Maui

I've read that Maui is the highest in the United States for gas prices. How do yours compare?

Let It Be

"When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.

For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.

I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be. " ~~The Beatles

Cheap Thrills

There is a famous shortcut on Maui via Hansen Road--you take it if you're driving upcountry (or back to South Maui) and wish to by-pass the Kahului traffic.

There is a way to get air-borne on this road if you time it right. This only works when there are zero cars of ahead of you. What you do is step on the gas and hit the bump in the road at just the right time. Then your car wheels can briefly leave the ground, and your stomach does a little fun flip. This little trick works best with small sports cars.

I've discovered one other bump on the road between Makena and La Perouse Bay, but it's not quite as exciting.

Welcome to the Maui Mall

E Komo Mai means Come In!--Welcome! This is the entrance to the Maui Mall of Kahului. The harbor where the cruise ships come in is nearby, and many tourists visit this mall. Soon there will be a Whole Foods Market, the world's largest retailer of natural and organic foods, replacing the Star market in this Mall, and we're so excited about this change-over.

G is for Green

In past posts, I've featured photos of the famous Iao Needle, but I've never seen an artist paint it with such a vivid green color as the internationally recognized Maui artist Curtis Wilson Cost.

On his website, the words "heightened realism" are used to describe his work, and I feel this wording is perfect to describe his style of art.

Time For Spring Break

Whenever I look up and see a plane arriving or departing, I feel the urge to take a trip. Right now I'm blaming this feeling on Spring Fever, but actually this urge happens in every season!

Here's an email which was sent to me today. I don't know the author, but I think it's very funny!

"The Center for Disease Control (CDC) just issued a medical alert about a highly contageous and potentially dangerous virus that can be transmitted orally, by hand, or even electronically. It is called Weary Overload Recreational Killer (WORK).

If you get WORK from your boss, or a colleague, or anyone else, DO NOT TOUCH IT. This virus can wipe out your personal life!

If you come into contact with WORK you should immediately leave the premises. Take two good friends to the nearest supermarket and purchase one or both of the two known antidotes: Work Isolating Neutralizer Extract (WINE) or Bothersome Employer Elimination Reeboter (BEER). Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system.

Share this alert with your circle of friends. If you do not have five friends, you have already been infected and WORK is controlling your life."

Mango Blossoms

Previously I've posted photos of our mangoes on our mango trees, and now the mango trees are blossoming. It's Springtime at last!! This has been the coldest winter I've ever experienced on Maui, and I'm so ready for Spring.
