August Theme Day--Metal

This isn't like me to be so indecisive, but seriously--I couldn't make up my mind which METAL photo to post for the August theme of Metal, so I posted my three favorites. Which one is your favorite?

The top one is a warning sign which I purchased for a friend of mine with a fierce chihuaha...the second one is a metal sign pointing to one of my favorite beachside restaurants, and the third one is an old engine.

Please visit the other daily photobloggers in the following list to see how they interpreted metal!

Maui Wowee

Sunsets on Maui are breathtaking, and I place most of them on my other blog Maui Skies, but I wanted to share this one with you. This photo is another one of my oldies but goodies! Tomorrow I will celebrate the 2 year anniversary of Maui Skies, so if ya have time, drop by and wish Maui Skies a Happy Birthday!

The Meeting

If this photo looks old, that's because it IS! I discovered this in my archives and decided to post it because of it's rarity. How often do you see two peacocks having a meeting on the road?

Wild peacocks are seen ALL over Maui, but this is my ONLY photo of two together.

There's Always Manana

The above metal sculpture is the logo for the Manana Garage Restaurant, a fine dining restaurant that serves Cuban/Latin themed cuisine. We eat there often, and today the place was packed.

Wall Of Green

My summer is actually more exciting than this photo would suggest. However, when the days are busy and lots of stuff is happening, nothing is more soothing to me than gazing upon all things GREEN. There is something about the color GREEN which rejuvenates me.

And what color or place does it for you?

Circles Which Remain

You will find this giant circular piece of old equipment nearby the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum on Maui. Here's the directions in case you want to visit:

"The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum is located in a historic former plantation superintendent's residence, originally built in 1902, at the intersection of Mokulele Highway (route 311/350) and Hansen Road, approximately 10 minutes from Kahului Airport.
"

This circular wheel is as beautiful as a constructed sculpture,...and quite fitting to enter into the VFXY theme of circles this week.

Or Would You Rather...

....gawk at these luscious, beautiful flowers? Hey, you can do both! Life is GOOD!

Golden Shower Trees

All over Maui you will see these beautiful Golden Shower Trees blooming. This one is flowering in Wailea. Aren't they gorgeous?

South Maui Zip

While waiting for my partner who was inside the post office the other day, I took this photo. Ya know how we photo bugs are with our itchy fingers! As I was staring at this photo, I noticed that the word Office seems to be a mite crooked, and maybe it's the E that's off. Does your eye see this too? Or is it MY photo?

Waiting For Night To Shine

This is a large lava fire pit which I've featured before (at night) on this blog, and during the daytime, it's not nearly as dramatic--although much more visible!

When you drive to the entry of the Wailea Beach Villas in Wailea, you will notice this fire pit on your right.

And Then I Saw...

There is usually something new to see if one pays attention and gazes around your neighborhood. I noticed this beautiful new mosaic with red ginger above the Kihei Plaza sign the other day. It looks great, dontcha think?

What have you noticed new in your neighborhood?

White and Happy

This was a gift which I love: a Japanese styled piggy bank! And I'm submitting this as my addition to the VFXY theme for white.

Care For A Donkey Ball Dear?

We were driving down South Kihei Road yesterday merrily minding our own business when suddenly I noticed this store sign, and I was so taken with it that we drove around the block to photograph it for the worldwide audience!

No, I didn't go in and purchase any! I'm not terribly attracted to donkey balls, but I think the name and sign are very eye-catching, eh?

And when am I gonna have another opportunity to post something like this???

Working For A Living

All kinds of beings are employed by the hotels/resorts to keep the customers happy. Many employ birds such as this parrot. I wonder what this beautiful parrot makes of all the people passing by and saying "Aloha" with different accents.

My Vote For Most Original

I saw this license plate the other day, and it gets my vote as the most original plate I've seen around Maui. Do you have a personalized license plate?

Inside The Maui Mall Theater Complex

The Maui Mall Theater Complex has the most theaters in Maui--twelve of them. This photo shows the lobby, and as you can see, neon lights and bright colors are the design theme.

Nature

This is an old photo of a mossy tree from one of my hikes in the WET part of Maui, certainly not South Maui where I live! I love to see the coloration and imprints which form on the trees from the moisture.

Maui Dogs Have It Made In The Shade

If I were forced to reincarnate as a dog, I would hope to be born a Maui dog--or at least move to Maui. Judging by the dogs I meet around and about (alas, no ownership of a dog for me at the present time), Maui dogs have it good!

This old dog came to greet me recently, and she told me she loved Maui. She had spent most of her doggy-hood in Alaska, and Maui was a great place to retire.

Coconut Pruning Season Again

Yes, it's that time again when we were hearing the thunder of coconuts falling from our six tall coconut trees. And so today Da Coconut Man is chopping down all the coconuts and branches!

Football Season Approaches

The Sports Page Bar and Grill is South Maui's sport's bar hangout, and this is where my partner will be as soon as football season begins--the reason being is that we have cable, and they have satellite, and they get more stations and games than we do on our tv. Plus he's got his group that cheers on games with him there.

Are You A Fan of Starbucks Coffee Drinks?

If so, there is one in South Maui at the Kukui Mall, right around the corner from the library, the photo of which I posted yesterday.

Maui has most of the same restaurant chains you find elsewhere with some notable exceptions: why isn't there a TGIF here? I can't even imagine why.

The Lovely Library of South Maui

Inside the library which serves South Maui, you'll find a well-designed, comfortable, clean, and airy space. As nice as it is, I rarely use it because I most often order books online. Do you use your public library?

Man Talk

Overheard at the beach (an imaginary conversation):

"So is the boat blue enough....big enough? Give us your honest opinion. Don't hold back."

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

Then Again...

There is also traditional one-piece swimwear you'll see on Maui beaches.

And yes, I intentionally chopped the heads off my photo subjects for their privacy. Not everyone likes to have their mugs splashed across the internet.

What kind of swimwear do you wear?

Rear View

This woman is wearing a Brazilian cut bikini bottom-- the current popular style with young people and the type of bikini bottom I favor and wear. I rarely see thongs on the beaches of South Maui, and full bikini bottoms are probably the second most popular bikini bottom.
